Before we get into treatment for blackheads on face, you need to know first what are blackheads. Blackheads are actually a kind of acne. They appear because of dirt, germ, keratin, makeup, dead skin cells, and skin oil or sebum are piling up in the hair follicles. The reason why the surface of the blackhead is dark is because of the skin’s oxidization. Treatment for Blackheads

One thing that you have to remember is that blackheads treatments take time. You cannot expect to have an instant result. They may take several weeks to months before showing the result.

1. Benzoyl Peroxide

When you use Benzoyl Peroxide, it will decrease the chemical reaction in the hair follicle because it has an antibacterial effect. This will also help you in reducing the buildup which can cause blackheads. The Benzoyl Peroxide is suitable to use in the mild-case blackheads.

2. Retinoids

There are three types of retinoids which include tretinoin (Retin-A, Avita, Renova), adapalene (Differin), or tazarotene (Tazorac). Retinoids will increase cell turnover and reduce the “stickiness” of the dead skin cells. Retinoids will also help remove the buildup and return the pore to normal.

3. Isotretinoin (Accutane)

It is used for severe cystic acne but it is not suitable to be used for mild acne. Accutane can make a great difference for those who have cystic acne. Unfortunately, it has many side effects including severe birth defects and monthly blood tests are required while using this medication.

4. Extraction

This last treatment is loved by many people. This treatment uses tools to press the skin so that it can push out the blackheads. However, you must do this treatment gently. It is best to find a professional to do the extraction. Wrong move and you will have irritated skin.
