Blackheads Scalp: Causes, Treatment, and Prevention

Even though it is not seen, blackheads scalp can be itchy and disturbing when you are combing your hair. Moreover, blackheads on the scalp can also cause hair falls and permanent baldness. Blackheads on scalp happen when the pores or hair follicles are clogged. But do not be worried, because there is some treatment to handle this skin problem.

Causes of Blackheads Scalp

Below are the causes of clogged scalp pores which trigger blackheads scalp.
1. The hygiene of the hair and scalp is not well-kept. Rarely washing hair can cause blackheads pimple on scalps.
2. Not washing the hair after working out.
3. Using too much shampoo, hair oil, hair spray, and other hair products.
4. Wearing headgear for too long.
5. The use of certain medicines, such as corticosteroid and antibiotic cream for a long time.

How to Treat Blackheads on Scalp

Mild blackheads pimple on scalps does not need particular treatment and can be gone by itself. But you can follow these ways to quickly treat and remove blackheads on your scalp.
1. Wash your hair and scalp once every 2 days with anti-bacterial shampoo.
2. Try to use a shampoo that contains salicylic acid, glycolic acid, ketoconazole or ciclopirox, tea tree oil, and jojoba oil. Salicylic acid and glycolic acid functions to remove dead skin cells and kill bacteria. While ketoconazole or ciclopirox is antifungal content which is usually contained in an anti-dandruff shampoo.
3. Avoid using hair products such as hair spray, hair oil, wax, and pomade that can clog your scalp pores.
4. Compress your scalp with warm saltwater. Mix warm water with a teaspoon of salt and rub it to your scalp. You can also use white vinegar. After that, wash your hair and scalp cleanly.

How to Prevent Blackheads on Scalp

Here are some tips that you can follow to prevent blackheads scalp.
1. Routinely wash your hair and scalp with a mild and gentle shampoo. Directly wash your hair after working out, wearing headgear, or sweating.
2. Keep your bed clean. Regularly change your bedsheet and pillo case. The bacteria and dirt on your pillowcase and bedsheet can make your scalp pores clogged and trigger blackheads pimple.
3. Apply a healthy dietary habit. Consume more Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Omega-3 fatty acid, zinc, fiber, and antioxidant.
Consult the doctor if those treatments above did not work, especially if the blackheads cause hair fall.
